1999 CAPS Resolution

In the name of all who have sailed aboard our ships in the past, and in the name of all who may sail aboard them in the future, we invoke the ancient gods of the wind and the sea to favor us with their blessing today.

Mighty Neptune, king of all that moves in or on the waves; and mighty Aeolus, guardian of the winds and all that blows before them:

We offer you our thanks for the protection you have afforded our vessels in the past. We voice our gratitude that we have always found shelter from tempest and storm and enjoyed safe passage to port.

Now, wherefore, we submit this supplication, that the name whereby this club has hitherto been know CAPS, Catalina 30 Fleet 6, Catalina 320 Fleet 5, Catalina 35 Fleet 5 be struck and removed from your records.

Further, we ask for a blessing with another name, we shall be know as the All Catalina Fleet 1, Catalina Association of Puget Sound, to be referred to as Fleet 1 or CAPS, be now recognized and shall be accorded once again the same privileges we previously enjoyed.

In return for which, we rededicate our vessels to you domain in full knowledge that Fleet 1 shall be subject as always to the immutable laws of the gods of the wind and the sea.

In consequence whereof, and in good faith, we seal this pact with the following resolutions to be attended to in the year of the sea 1999, in accordance to the hallowed ritual of the sea.

We resolve to make 1999 [and all successive days, weeks and years] a year of safe sailing and voyaging by considering the following items with intention and purpose.

    1. That the Captains aboard our ships ensure the safety of their vessel and crew by training the First Mate in all procedures of operation of our vessels.
    2. That the Captains aboard our ships name a ship’s safety officer of their vessel, this maybe the Captain, First Mate or regular crew member.
    3. That the Captains and First Mates aboard our ships direct their attention to the wearing and review of PFD’s usage aboard their individual vessels.
    4. That the Captains and First Mates aboard our ships provide adequate first aid and safety supplies aboard our vessels.
    5. That the Captains and First Mates aboard our ships attend training in regards to first aid and CPR.
    6. That the Captains and First Mates aboard our ships are knowledgeable in the usage of their LifeSling’s or other similar rescue equipment.
    7. That the Captains and First Mates aboard our ships are knowledgeable and able to summon aid in the event of emergency. To invoke the attention of emergency services via cell phone and or Marine VHF radio.
    8. That the Captains and First Mates aboard our ships practice single handed sailing to allow safe passage in an emergency.
    9. That the Captains and First Mates aboard our ships share with their crew the location and how to use emergency locator devices. Besides kids love to use the flare pistol.
    10. That the Captains and First Mates aboard our ship know how to invoke the use of light at night or in dark damp places.
    11. That the Captains and First Mates aboard our ships have knowledge on the usage of power and storable power devices, how to use them and where they are stored.
    12. That the Captains and First Mates aboard our ships have knowledge and equipment in extinguish unwanted flames aboard our vessels.

As we start this year, 1999, a year with two Blue Moons, to Neptune and Aeolus, we dedicate these resolutions for your observation and watchful touch.

Amen
